Kicking off the Season
With the start of a new school year, comes the start of a new season for all sorts of different sports. From volleyball and football, to cross country, soccer, and tennis.
For some teams this means the beginning of a season with a brand new coach, such as first year football coach Vernon Fox.
Coming off a two game-losing streak Faith Lutheran quickly bounced back winning four games in a row facing teams such as Sunrise Mountain, Chaparral, Mojave, and last years rivals, Boulder City.
This makes Faith Lutheran’s football record to date 4-2. “We’re looking pretty solid so far and definitely looking a lot tougher than we did in previous years,” said Varsity quarterback Jacob Deaville.
“Just being more consistent and being able to stay up when we go up is something we need to improve upon,” said Deaville. Very similar to this, Varsity soccer captain Michael Manfredi said, ”We have to be faster. I wish the games were more spread out so we could be at our full potential every game.”
This years boys Varsity soccer team has a record of 9-0-1 as of right now. “Our goal for this year is state and nothing less,” said Manfredi. This summer the soccer team has had intense summer lifting every day, “We’ve been doing everything we did last year but times two,” said Manfredi. Right now the girls Varsity soccer team is also having a good year with a record of 4-2. “Our expectations are to defend our regional championship and to go all the way to the State Championship,” said Capitan Dani Tharaldson.
Cross Country is also starting off the season with a promising start. Both the girls and the boys are off to a good start with a record of 2-0. “We’ve been doing very well so far,” said boy’s captain Chase Wood, “and are looking very strong as a team.”
