No NFL team for Las Vegas

The Oakland Raider’s logo could change if the team relocates to Las Vegas.

The Oakland Raiders have prepared for their relocation to a $1.9 billion stadium in Las Vegas for the 58th season of the franchise for months, until Sheldon Adelson dropped out of the deal. Adelson, an owner of multitude casinos in the valley, pledged the team a deal of $650 million to collaborate with the Raiders $500 million towards the stadium, in early 2016. Although, the Adelson’s family withdrew their aid from the “Las Vegas Raiders” project on January 30, 2017, four days after the stadium authority board meeting was held with the council of Las Vegas.

“Unfortunately the NFL is a business and despite the fact that many use it as entertainment, their goal is and will always be to make money,” stated Coach Vernon Fox, Faith Lutheran’s head football coach and former NFL player.

Sheldon Adelson withdrew his $650 million aid from the Raiders franchise last month. He had heard that the spokesman for the team, at the stadium authority board meeting, had not mentioned Adelson’s name when the topic of funding the stadium came up. The foundation also mentioned a deal that the Adelson family had not heard of before. “It was certainly shocking to the Adelson family. We were not only excluded from the proposed agreement; we weren’t even aware of its existence,” Adelson’s stated. Four days after this news, he wanted to publicly let the Las Vegas community know about his withdraw from the project; shocking the NFL.

“I feel they [NFL] look for ways to make money from new fan base’s over how the team plays in the cities. It happened with the Chargers and it could easily happen with the Raiders this season, even though Oakland fans don’t want them to move,” said Charles Dowell, 11.

Included in the Raiders new stadium would be an agreement that the professional team would have full control of the UNLV Rebel’s football playing and practice schedule. The team also stated, they do not want any Rebel brand on the field markings. After council men voted against this idea, the Las Vegas Review Journal stated, “Jessup said he is satisfied that on Rebel game days the stadium will look like a UNLV home field.”

“I think with Coach Sanchez [UNLV football head coach] having been a local HS coach prior to his role at UNLV, they have started to take a greater interest in retaining local talent and that can motivate high school players in knowing they have realistic options here locally to play at the next level,” said Coach Vernon Fox.
