John Wick Movie Review

John Wick (2014) follows the story of a man with the same name who is a retired hit man. He receives a gift from his deceased wife who ordered it to be delivered after he death to help him cope with her passing. She sends him a puppy named Daisy. One-day John encounters a Russian mobster who is interested in his vintage Mustang. John says its not for sale and that night they break into his house, beat him, kill his puppy and steal his car.

This is the start of a great revenge story. Keanu Reeves is still one of the greatest action stars and he still shows it in this movie. Since the director is a stunt man, the movie was beautifully choreographed as everything is in camera without being shaky or unclear as to what’s happening. All the action is pretty cool too because as I said earlier John Wick only gets head shots and if he shoots you again its to make sure your dead.

The movie also sets up a interesting world of hit men and assassins, the most interesting being the hotel named The Continental where no business can be conducted (basically you cant kill someone who is staying at the hotel). If you appreciate stunts, this movie is for you as people hit by cars, pushed down stairs, get hit in hand-to-hand combat and it manages to looks real. Keanu Reeves also did 90% of his stunts so the man is great with doing his own stunts.

John Wick is a very solid action movie and sets up a great world that is also explored in the sequel. I give John Wick a 9.5/10.
