Split Movie Review

Split Movie Review

Split is M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller that revolves around a man named Kevin, who has 23 different personalities. The story starts when Dennis, one of the personalities kidnaps three girls. The girls soon find out that “The Beast” or 24th personality will come to kill them.

Night Shyamalan had a rough 5 years after signs, he slipped and fell and finally got back up in 2015 with The Visit which was a pleasant surprise to some people with its low budget and successful box office numbers, most people said Shyamalan is back.

Split shows that Shyamalan is back for sure being one of his best movies. Split is really creepy and unsettling rather than scary as its more a Thriller than a horror movie. The movie gets more intense as the girls find out what will happen if they stay. Split is beautifully written with dialogue that never gives to much away and James Mcavoy is brilliant playing all 23 personalities. I think James Mcavoy is a very underrated actor, being great in X-men to a smaller role like this. I would say his performance in this is Oscar worthy as none of the personalities are the same.

Mcavoy really gives his all in this movie and its one of his best performances. Ana Taylor-Joy is also really good in the movie, being the most reasonable in the situation that her and the two other girls are in. Her character also has a backstory that really leaves the end hanging as to what will happen next. Split is also when of Shyamalan’s best looking movies as the cinematography is smooth and subtle, not giving much away like the writing. The ending was interesting as it took a turn from the rest of the movie with the tone. Split also has one of my favorite twists since the sixth sense and unbreakable.

Split is Shyamalan’s triumphant return to filmmaking and I’m glad he’s back. The movie has great writing and solid performances from everyone and I give Split an 8.8/10.
