Online Learning Day
The fast development of technology, the economy, and the environment thrive schools to many more opportunities. As we all know, many schools have already adopted the online education as their way of teaching, especially colleges. Although the online learning brings a new review of education, however, this new form of studying also becomes a controversial discussion among students and teachers.
“I think the online learning is useless. Although it can provide preparation for our college learning and this as a new way to teach, I don’t like the hard questions,” said senior, Carina Law, “I really hate the online learning. It makes me stressed and nervous. I don’t know how to take notes and cannot ask the teacher immediately. There is no denying that these are the reasons why it costs me a lot of time.”
Obviously, some students think that online learning days have negative points. One of the best ways of studying is to communicate with others, and Faith teachers say they try to bring collaboration into these lessons.
A senior, Kayla Jones, showed her opinion. “It is hard to do by myself. I would like to work with my classmates because we can share opinions with each other. What’s more, no one can charge with you when you study at home. This is a bad news for me,” said senior, Kayla Jones.
Students are concerned that they cannot control when they study at home. However, Mr. Dan Buikema said, “Self-control just depends on themselves”. Studying is not passive, whether studying or not is voluntary.
In addition, some students thought that online learning just gave more chances for teachers to take rest. On this misunderstanding, Dan Buikema responded,
“A normal class takes about 85 minutes. Students should follow the rules as if they are at school. Our teachers do not take a break during the online learning day. We have spent a year to prepare the lesson for those days and after that, we will have a meeting to discuss whether it is appropriate. Actually, this will cost more jobs for us. Moreover, we also spend more time to grade and check students’ work than in the normal day“.
Mr. Buikema talked about why we should start the online learning at faith. Is it just follow the trend? ” It is difficult to take full year credit for online learning at college. What we are going to do is to provide opportunities for them and let them realize how to work when they attend to colleges”, Dan Buikema said.
Although most of the students do not like this program, Faith will continue to use this form of study. The next online learning day is on April 11 and April 12.
