Unlocking Your Opinion

The Talking Locker outside Mrs. Buuck’s office.

Recently on the campus of FLHS a new means of communication has been set in place. The Talking Locker. The Talking Locker was created in order to help kids communicate what they want to see happen on campus anonymously.

Mrs. Buuck informed us that “the purpose of the talking locker is to have a place for students to put in suggestions to the student council, the high school leadership, or the middle school leadership.” Students should write down their suggestions on events the school is holding, ideas for new clubs, and changes to current traditions to improve them.

“[The] secretary Gabby Jackson checks the responses and then relays the ones that are important to the rest of student council (excluding ones people have put in as a joke),” said sophomore Hailey MacCachren, stuco member.

“We pass on whatever anyone writes [and puts into the talking locker] to [administration] regarding the character of leadership students, because if you’re a leader you are held to a higher standard,” said Buuck on different kinds of tips they receive through the talking locker.

Many ideas inserted into the talking locker have been used, including the theme for prom 2015 which came directly through the talking locker. Another topic highly present is the positive feedback on use of the amphitheater for dances which they will keep in mind.

“So [overall],” Buuck included, “it can be anything, we’ve received a lot of different things.”

The locker is normally found outside Mrs. Buuck’s office in the gym. Students are encouraged to place their thoughts, opinions, and ideas inside the talking locker, but keep in mind all submissions should be respectful.
