Crusaders take on World Diabetes Day
In honor of November 14 being World Diabetes Day, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation sponsors One Walk. The walk raises funds for research in for Type 1 Diabetes.
Dina Ciulla, Hailey Gravitt, Julie Netski and Katie Crowder teamed up to walk for the cause, a cause close to their hearts. Ciulla formed a Faith team “Faith Crusaders and Friends” over 3 years ago when she was first diagnosed with Type 1. Gravitt, Netski and Crowder, also fight the disease every day with countless blood glucose testing and insulin injections.
Faith Crusaders and Friends consisted of the Type 1 girls of Faith along with their families and friends. The girls’ tennis team even came out to walk for Type 1.
“Since a lot of people came out and supported, we had a big team and were able to raise over $10,000,” said Ciulla.
Since Ciulla first started the team, more students with Type 1 diabetes have gotten involved in with JDRF as well as students.
The race was a great success this year, the Faith Crusaders and Friends team won a contest for the best t-shirt design.
“Next year, I hope that our team will be even more successful than this year. I am hoping to bring more awareness about JDRF and the walk to more people,” said Cuilla.
If you would like more information, or would like to donate to research for a cure you can go to www.jdrf.org and next October keep an eye out for information on how to get involved with the walk.
