Adding the Fantasy to Football
*This article is only about normal fantasy football, not daily fantasy leagues, as that is considered gambling in the state of Nevada
Ever feel that you are missing something on your Sundays? Maybe you enjoy watching football but you need something to make you care about not only your team’s game? Do you just need something to fill up time over the week? Or do you just like some casual competition with your friends? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Fantasy Football may be just for you.
Fantasy Football can be played anywhere, at any time during the football season. It doesn’t matter whether you live in San Diego, Taiwan, or wherever, as long as you put your players in your lineup by the start of their respective games. This allows long time friends who have since moved away from each other to not only play the game they love, but continue their friendships with each other as well.
If you are wondering whether or not to do Fantasy, here is my advice to you; you either have to go all in or not do it at all. If you just stroll on in and say, “Meh, I will just auto draft” (having the computer draft for you) or you do draft but are unprepared, and don’t adjust your lineup for the entire year, chances are you are going to perform atrociously. But you could get lucky, as did one man who almost won my league last year by going undefeated and losing in the championship. But, if you prepare and pay attention each week to your team, then you just might become a living legend in the world of Fantasy Football.
However, this comes at a steep price. If you want to succeed at Fantasy Football, then some free time might turn into Fantasy time. The best part is, if you don’t like it, or are too busy, you can quit any time you want. But I argue, would you want to be great and walk up to your friend with pride over another crushing win? Or would you rather sulk with shame after another demoralizing defeat? If you want to dominate your league and have fun at the same time, the cost of devoting some time to Fantasy Football would not be great at all, but rather rewarding.
