Looking for a new book

Alexis Kent

Bestselling novel, Looking for Alaska, book cover on iPad.

Looking for Alaska, another bestseller for John Green, has received more than it’s fair share of hype. This novel follows the mysterious death of protagonist Alaska, and the grief it has brought to those around her. This is definitely not what I would call one of John Green’s best novels, especially considering the success and originality of his previous work.

Overall, this book seriously lacked originality as it included a lot of clichés and misconceptions of teenagers.

While there were a few moments in the novel that were really heartbreaking, my ability to sympathize for the characters was clouded by their immature actions.

This “young-adult” novel is better suited for a younger audience. It’s cliché story line and characters were very boring and I found myself putting the book down before I finished it, soon to realize I had no desire pick it back up. The name John Green usually croons all teenage girls and most of them fall in love with any of his novels, but after digging a little deeper, I feel most people will find that this story is not all it’s cracked up to be.
