Scientific Construction Ahead

The Southeast corner of the gym gets a facelift.

Everywhere you turn on campus these days there is a detour sign here or construction tape there.  The new gym has been in the works since early December, but the latest construction off of the wrestling room has stirred up some questions by students. Is the new construction an additional extension to the gym, or something else?

” I think it is a snack bar,” said David Gorman, 8th grader.  “I don’t have a clue,”  laughs Dominic Warner. Walking around campus, most students either did not know, or did not display much concern as what the newer construction was.   “I thought it was the gym,” shrugs Jessica Scamman.

Speculations have been anything from more room for wrestlers, to adding additional weight room, but the truth of the matter is that the construction to the Southeast corner of the gym is a brand new science lab.

CEO, Dr. Stephen Buuck is constantly thinking of ways to cater to every student at Faith Lutheran.  “Science Classes as you know are very specific specifically designed rooms and so we really needed to build one just to allow more kids to come into Faith,”  said Dr. Buuck.

One student out of five we interviewed was privy to the construction being a new lab, but that doesn’t stop the enthusiasm for the expansion. “It’s the STEM building,” said AJ Scott, junior.”  Jessica Scamman exclaims, “Like molecular genetics?”

As of right now here at Faith Lutheran our science classrooms are not designated to one teacher. Mrs. Emily Blank, Science Department Chair explains that with the new addition the lab will be specifically for classes requiring dissecting so it will be for Anatomy classes and Marine and Desert Biology classes.

“With our growing population and the addition of new classes like Honors Molecular Genetics, we are excited to open a new lab classroom,” said Blank.

The science lab expected to be open at the beginning of the 2014 school year. Even if you aren’t a science major here at Faith, the expansion will benefit all by freeing up space on campus.  “Woo hoo new building for us,” exclaims Scamman.
