‘Tis the Season for Christmas Movies
As Christmas is just rolling around the corner, many festivities and traditions are under way, and families are bustling to spend every precious moment together. One of the most special holiday traditions that almost every household does is watch Christmas movies by the fire and under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree, while drinking hot chocolate. While everyone has their go-to Christmas movies during the holiday season, why not change it up?
“Christmas movies are definitely the highlight of my holiday season”, says Brittni Black, senior. When asked what her favorite Christmas movie is, Brittni said, “Christmas Box because it’s a true Christmas classic about love, family, and friendship.” Speaking of classic movies, there are a few new Christmas movies coming out this season, such as Tyler Perry’s: A Madea Christmas, Frozen, and a twist on the classic tale in Black Nativity, staring Jennifer Hudson.
Yet many movie-goers are reluctant to watch new Christmas movies that could taint the image of everyone’s beloved classics. Many prefer classic Christmas movies as oppose to new, modern, Christmas movies and vice versa. “I prefer classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life because this movie is witty and hilarious while showing a family-based side as well”, says Lili Bonora. However, Bonora stated she is not opposed to watching new Christmas movies this year, and plans to watch the new flick, Frozen.
Madison Martin said, “my favorite Christmas movie is by far Jim Carrey’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas because it’s a movie that I can watch year-round and especially during Christmas because it’s just a very good comedy film”.
Everyone should step out of their Christmas-classics comfort zone this year and watch a new flick they haven’t seen before. Making new traditions this holiday season could spark something in you just in time for the New Year!
