Faith Moves Upward and Onward
As 2:45 PM approached on the cold afternoon of December 5th, the hallways were buzzing with word about a “Groundbreaking Ceremony”. Many students were confused, “Are they digging up a person, or are they digging up a time capsule…I don’t get it?” Evan Carter, 6th grader, asked me.
Although no one was completely sure what was happening at this Groundbreaking Ceremony when it began, the student body quickly realized they were witnessing history be made. Dr. Buuck informed them that Faith would be “taking the next step in an unfinished story”.
This “next step” is beginning to build the new Crusader Competition Center. Of course, Dr. Buuck along with other trustees moved some ground at the end of the ceremony. The next day the designated area for the competition center was fenced off, and construction had begun; proving this groundbreaking ceremony wasn’t just figurative.
Faith Lutheran is not only moving forward by building the new gym, but they are also in the process of purchasing the land across the street from Homestretch, where the sixth graders get picked up.”I think there is going to be a lot of groundbreakings in the future, and we are very pleased to be apart of that. We look forward to being a partner with you [Faith Lutheran] for many, many years.” said Kevin Orrock, the president of the Howard Hughes Corporation of Las Vegas. Orrock made it possible for Faith Lutheran to purchase the 10 acres of land across the street by offering it to the school before neighborhood developers, to whom he could’ve easily sold the land to.
Faith Lutheran has definitely taken the next step in expanding itself to its full potential by beginning to build the gym, and purchasing the land across the street. It’s a good day to be a Crusader.
