The defending champions of 4A are heading into another year determined to keep the name of State Champs alive. So far into the season, the boys soccer team is undefeated and in first place.
However, the Crusaders do have a tie which was against Canyon Springs in a close 2-2 game. The offense has been great for the boys this year scoring 40 goals and 35 assists. The leading goal scorer for the Crusader is Ethan Otto with 12 goals this season, and Huba Hajdu with 7 assists on the year. Tyler Vanderveldt has had an explosive year so far as well, with 12 shutout games, and over 50 saves.
After a blowout win against Spring Valley, the Crusaders will play their toughest opponent yet against Liberty, on Tuesday, October 10, at 4:00 p.m. Liberty is second place in the league, and have not lost a game yet. It’s a great feeling coming off a 5-0 win, but they cannot be satisfied yet. The coaches have been getting the players ready and prepared with having practices throughout the week, and a meeting on Friday to watch film.
The Crusaders do this all season to make sure everyone is on the same page, and so everyone watches film to watch their mistakes in games so they could talk about it, and how they can fix it. Film studies for sport athletes is an important theme, so they can learn what they did in game and to also analyze and reflect on it.
Players on the soccer team are very confident this year that they can defend the title. As one player stated, “We have a good team, better than last year, we will win it as long as we don’t get too cocky.” Many of the players also agree that they have a good shot to win it back to back this year. There are only 5 games remaining left in the season, with games against; Legacy, Clark, Cheyenne, and Chaparral high school. Playoffs are around the corner, don’t miss out to go and support your defending 4A champions!
