The Importance of Wearing a Face Mask in Public
People should wear face masks in public regardless of their health situation. Even if you are perfectly healthy or you think you’re immune to Covid-19, you should wear a face mask.
To start, face masks keep our own germs from spreading by containing what we release when we speak or cough. According to the Mayo Clinic, cloth masks, “trap droplets that are released.” If we can keep our germs to ourselves it will help lower the spread greatly.
To keep other people safe, wearing a mask can help those who have respiratory issues such as: asthma, COPD, or cancer. Covid-19 greatly affects the lungs. WebMD states that a person’s lungs can, “become inflamed,” with Covid-19, making it tough to breathe. This is serious for people who already have damaged lungs. Protecting others from an awful virus by just wearing a cloth covering is worth it. We should be mindful of other peoples’ health circumstances.
Lastly, we are in a global pandemic. A virus has spread all over our nation and around the world. According to Google’s live report, we have seven million cases in the US and 32.3 million cases worldwide. This pandemic should not be handled carelessly because it’s not a joke. There have been 984,000 deaths worldwide, and 200,000 deaths in the US. It’s most likely going to be a million deaths worldwide soon if people don’t protect themselves or others by wearing a face mask.
Face masks help keep ourselves and others safe during this global pandemic. Everyone can help keep their community’s safe by wearing a mask and for these reasons, this is why you should wear a face mask in public.
